Rui Smiths was born out of an awareness that nail-beauty tools are overlooked and under-appreciated. Our founder Debbie launched the business in 2014 after a decade as a news reporter and editor, and hasn't looked back since.

We curate precise and proven implements made by expert craftspeople and smiths. Rui, pronounced 'ray', means sharp and keen – which encompasses the essence of the brand. We want to build something meaningful and give back to society, by supporting factories that hire local workers.

Also suitable for left-handers, the cuticle nipper is the most challenging implement to make among all nail-beauty tools because its super sharp, ultra-thin blades must be perfectly aligned to make precision cuts. The delicate blades have to withstand constant, repeated clashing and cutting, and must hold their edge, not bend easily, and nip the tiniest slivers of dead skin. Rui Smiths cuticle nippers are among the hardest in the world according to the Rockwell scale, which means they hold their sharpness longer.

We source our steel from South Korea, Japan and Italy, and you can truly feel the quality when holding our tools in your palm. Our plastic retail packaging is reusable – slip the tools into the packaging after use to keep them safe.
